The main objective of Erasmus mundus is cooperation and mobility programs in the field of higher education to improve the quality of European higher education. In addition to the objective of European Union, erasmus mundus was set up to promote a center of excellence for learning and intercultural understanding with third world countries.
Erasmus Mundus is an university cooperation program funded by the European Commission started in 2004 and continued until 2013 to 2014. Erasmus Mundus became part of Erasmus+ fundraising program, which continue until 2020.
The Erasmus+ program has been extended from 2021 to 2027. The number of participants is expected to increase although currently the Erasmus Mundus Joint PhD Degrees no longer exist, but the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) program is still offered under the Erasmus umbrella.

All European Union members states takes part in Erasmus scholarship as well as third countries as mention in article 16 of the Erasmus regulation. How to apply for Erasmus mundus scholarship 2023
After the first phase of eramus mundus that ended in 2020, eramus launch another eramus mundus program which will be between 2021 to 2027 and will be focusing on climate change, green and digital transition as well as promoting young peoples participation in democratic life.

NOTE: If you are successful, you may also need to formally apply for a place to study at the university.
ERASMUS MUNDUS REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
As part of your online application, you must submit the following supporting documents which includes:
- A copy (or copies) of your official degree certificate(s) (if you have already completed your degree)
- A copy (or copies) of your official academic transcript(s), showing full details of subjects studied and grades/marks obtained
- Official English translations of the certificate(s) and transcript(s)
- A copy of your CV
- Evidence of your English Language ability (if your first language is not English)
- A copy of the photo page of your passport
- Two reference letters (at least one must be academic and, if appropriate, the other from the student’s most recent employer).
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2023 Deadline
Most consortia require submission of applications to be done between October and January for courses beginning the following academic year. Sometimes students are advice to contact the related consortium directly for information on application procedures, courses, as well as scholarships availability.
